A Divine Revelation

Writer: Hannah BakerHannah Baker

"I don't want the world to define God for me. I want the Holy Spirit to reveal God to me."

A. W. Tozer

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed the other day and I came across this above quote by A.W. Tozer and I was convicted from it from the very start. It convicted me because I am guilty of doing the same thing more than I care to admit. I get busy and sadly I get lazy. How many times do we go to other people and things rather than the Lord? What is it about man's view that it takes precedence over God's? Is it because we cannot see God in the flesh? Is it because we only want to hear what we want to hear and not what we need to hear? How many times do we only read our daily devotional instead of His Word? How many times do we listen to Christian music rather than reading His Word? How many times has our faith been solely based on earthly signs, forgetting the fact that He is the sign and only later realizing that we find we have no faith at all?

While listening to others Godly advice, listening to Christian music, reading devotionals aren't inherently wrong in nature, it should not be our only source of communication with Him. Instead, these things should act as supplements and not as the primary source. Not only is God and His Word living an active; He, too is The Word. It is usually through His Word that He communicates with us directly. Therefore, daily time in The Word and daily prayer are the two fundamental ways that are vitally paramount in having an intimate relationship with Him.

Our relationship with Christ is a personal one and it is also a journey. Whether it is in our joy or it is in our sorrows, it is in our personal journey through His Word where He walks with us and we walk with Him. 2 Timothy 3:14-17 says, " But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is by in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." It is through His Word and by His grace through the Holy Spirit where we can come to repent of our sins by which through faith begin to grasp the depth of His character, His unconditional love and knowledge of us. It is also in this place where our faith in Him strengthens and we find the truest rest. His rest.
